Mapping Providence

2023 Fall | DS1
Advised by Elizabeth Goodspeed

This project reimagines Providence through non-traditional mapping methods, stepping away from static representations. It involves a series of distinct maps, each offering a unique perspective.

1. Green Places, Roads, Buildings: Marks

Extracting details from a bird's-eye view, the first map quantifies green spaces, roads, and buildings, providing a percentage breakdown for each element.

2. Arch: Collection

This map focuses on arches in Providence's buildings, capturing the diverse architectural nuances that define the city.

3. College Hill: Elevation

Showing a cross-section to illustrate the placement of RISD buildings on hills, this map offers insight into the city's topographical layout.

4. Comfort zone: Radius

Documented the comfort zones of 6 RISD sophomores in Providence and correlated them with their zodiac signs.
5. Where have I been? : Circles and Lines

This map visually tracks one week of my movements. Circle radii indicate the duration spent at each location, and lines trace the routes taken during this time.

6. Benefit St: Colors

Captured the vibrant color spectrum of Benefit Street by documenting building wall colors, moldings, and doors, showing both single-tone structures and those with four-color palettes.
